Video gaming has become one of the globes most popular pastimes. Fans say games are often educational, their detractors answer they are anything but. Might ESA have something to learn from gaming? A new Agency study says the answer is yes. www.esa.int

Very interesting project. It would be nice if the game could also include some space flight e.g. actualy getting to Europa in the first place. It would be an interesting problem to try and solve.

i am very impressed, but one planet is to little, in my view we should have all planets and moons to work on to learn about and explore, cause if this would be a massive cooperation game where a person for example on mars is working on radio link between planets to share information he needs to be on guard if nothing wrong goes and so on with everything else.

Very nice. I hope we’ll see the game soon. It should be a free MMORPG with as much possibility to contribute as possible. Open source would be the best possible. Never underestimate your players :)
There is so much potential in this idea, I hope ESA will implement it soon and well.

Y’know, when I first read about the idea of proper video games for educational purposes, I didn’t think they would serious about going far to making one so soon. Well, we will see if these games will serve their purpose once they’re in schools.

As a game environment for the masses, Mindark is out of luck here. As a teaching tool for students in small groups, I think it could go far. I would love to write scripts and quests for it.

  8. I can understand that it’s very difficult in movies to have a gravity lower than 1g on the set, but it’s something that should be quite easy to implement in a game. Europa’s surface gravity is a tenth of Earth’s. Just letting the players get used to the weird behaviors it induces would teach them a lot on forces, weight and acceleration.

  13. inflateable says:

@inflateable also i like to learn what happens if we will live on space and space exploration, resources in space. live on space , how to make links to other planet, energy extraction energy storage energy distribution .food production etc etc etc

  14. The presentation effort is good. What will make the Game a success is the didactic and pedagogic content. It would be interesting if teachers could build the content of the lessons and share it over the internet. How is this related to the ISS Educational Tool – ESA ITT 2004 ?
